Scheduler/Secretary - Medical Oncology - Per Diem - Days
Responsible for communications, initiation of processing of medical records, patient appointments, telephone triage and other general clerical duties as required. Competent to care for patients of all ages to include pediatrics, adolescence, adults, and geriatrics. ACCOUNTABILITIES *All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise* 1. Greet all incoming patients, register, and check patient into the Cancer Center using EMR. Verifies patients’ demographic information, copies, and updates insurance card, and completes any registration details in the EMR needed to schedule the patient in the Cancer Center. 2. Schedule or reschedule patient appointments as directed by physician orders and testing guidelines, observe for scheduling conflicts. 3. Promptly assist physician in obtaining patient information. Effectively communicates physician special needs. 4. Answers incoming department calls in a professional timely manner, directs calls appropriately, takes complete and accurate phone messages for incomplete incoming calls and documents and routes phone messages in the EMR to appropriate persons when required. 5. Process requests for medical records, transfers, insurance inquiries using appropriate authorizations. Ensures current information is available and updated into the EMR prior to the next clinical visit. 6. Coordinate off site chart storage and chart retrieval fi applicable to Cancer Center 7. Ensure staff work areas are clean, orderly, and appropriately stocked. 8. Help maintain Joint Commission standards and readiness within the department at all times. ADDITIONAL INFOMRAITON: This position is trained to cover all 4 Toledo metro cancer center locations. The Scheduler will pick-up open shifts in both Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology. Education: High School Diploma Skills: Must be able to input & retrieve data from a computer, occasionally move/lift/carry lightweight objects, move about the hospital and between workstations with prolonged periods of standing/sitting, understand directions, communicate, and respond to inquiries, have effective interpersonal skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma Skills: Previous medical terminology course, prior training, or experience in basic office skills.
