Telecommunications Mechanic I (KCVC-2025-22982):
Bowhead seeks to network with a Telecommunications Mechanic I for an upcoming effort to support infrastructure updates to the Air National Guard network at McConnell AFB. This position will assist in the inspection, documentation, GPS survey, and data entry of outside plant (OSP) telecommunications features into the Cyberspace Infrastructure Planning System Visualization Component (CVC). The role requires hands-on work in field environments and interaction with government systems and facilities.
ResponsibilitiesJob duties to include but are not limited to:
Conduct physical inspections of outside plant telecommunications infrastructure, including manholes, hand-holes, pedestals, vaults, and building entry terminals.
Document field conditions and prepare legible field drawings using color-coded notation standards.
Replace, retag, and document telecommunications cables using approved labeling standards (e.g., Avery L4775, ACP VCT tags).
Use GPS equipment and electronic cable locators to capture feature locations; convert data into ESRI shape files for CVC input.
Enter inspection data and GPS coordinates into the CVC Editor application.
Perform quality assurance checks and participate in demonstration phases (35%, 65%, and 100% completion) to validate CVC updates.
Follow all confined space entry and safety regulations; operate within OSHA, Air Force, and local compliance standards.
Adhere to base access, security, and environmental regulations.
Other duties as assigned Qualifications EducationHigh school diploma or GED required.
Technical training in telecommunications systems, outside plant cabling, or GIS/mapping preferred.
Years of experienceMinimum 2 years of experience in telecommunications infrastructure inspection, cabling, or related outside plant work.
Prior experience with CVC or ESRI-based systems is highly desirable.Required skills or certificationsBasic understanding of outside plant telecommunications systems (copper/fiber).
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, telecom schematics, and cable records.
Experience using GPS and GIS data collection tools.
Familiarity with confined space procedures and safety compliance (e.g., OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146).
Must speak, read, and write fluent English.
Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass a Tier 1 background investigation.
Valid driver’s license (REAL ID compliant).
Preferred: CVC Editor access or prior training, or willingness to obtain training.
Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contactsStrong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
