What you will be doing
As a Santander CIB Summer Intern in Support Functions, you will support the day-to-day operations, fulfilment of regulatory requirements and management of risks arising from transactions and commercial activities which include:
HONG KONG
Compliance: Compliance including Regulatory Compliance and Financial Crime Compliance contribute directly to upholding the bank’s integrity and managing the regulatory risk. You will gain exposure to manage regulatory changes, implement internal controls, advise business on HKMA and internal regulations, ensuring ethical operational and robust risk management. You will also get experience to Financial Crime Compliance team to support the Bank to proactively detect and prevent money laundering, terrorist financing and sanction breaches through monitoring, investigations, and system control. This opportunity offers hands-on experience and developing understanding of the regulatory landscape for resilient business operations.
Finance: As a summer intern supporting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Santander, you will contribute to strategic financial planning by assisting with internal forecasting across the balance sheet, profit and loss, and capital consumption. You will be involved in developing financial risk management models and gain exposure to accounting and regulatory reporting processes. The role also includes preparing presentations for head office and participating in IT and automation initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency. In addition, you will support the management of financial risks—such as liquidity, interest rate, and foreign exchange—through asset and liability management strategies, including hedging and liquidity positioning. You will also assist in contingency planning for financial stress scenarios and contribute to evaluating capital deployment decisions to ensure alignment with the bank’s profitability standards, guided by funding transfer pricing methodologies.
Internal Audit: As a summer intern supporting the Internal Audit team, you will collaborate with other team members in the execution of different audits, assisting them in providing robust independent assurance and challenge on the effectiveness of processes and risk controls across the CIB Business. The intern shall ensure that all work undertaken, includes audit tests and finds documentation, meets the agreed time scales and complies with audit quality requirements and standards.
Regulatory Affairs & Controls (RAC): The Operational Risk & Control team supports the 1st Line of Defence (1LOD) execution and monitoring of controls and projects related to Business units and Support functions. You will be involved in the implementation of global and local controls, delivery of regulatory projects, coordination of risk and control assessment, management of incidents, formulation of BCP resilience strategy, and engagement with auditors. You will also support the Client Lifecycle Management team with client onboarding, KYC refresh, client data setup, ongoing lifecycle management, and quality control.
Market Risk: Market Risk team provides oversight of the bank’s trading and banking books’ market & structural risks including P&L calculation and statistical measures of performance / risk. You will focus on the trading book and work with the team on enhancing and automating our daily P&L and risk attribution tasks. In particular, the intern will be handling a large series of historical data and developing tools to streamline its processing to extract key statistical attributes to enhance the team’s understanding of the group’s trading profile.
Risk Intelligence & Oversight (RIO): Enterprise Wide Risk Management (or Risk Oversight) is the team that provides oversight of the all the bank’s risks and estimates its “Risk profile”. This includes Credit, ESG, Counterparty Credit Risk, Market, Liquidity and Non-financial Risk – Operational, technological and cyber. You will support the analysis, assessment, and management action for all ESG and Climate Change (ESG & CC) related risks impacting Santander APAC portfolios, clients and transactions. The intern will be helping the Oversight team to streamline and automate the current data workflow. .
SINGAPORE
Financial Control: You will assist in preparing and reviewing financial statements and regulatory reports for submission to the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), while gaining hands-on experience in managing branch expenses. You’ll also support system enhancement initiatives and contribute to automating recurring reports using AI tools. This role offers valuable exposure to risk management, regulatory compliance, and reporting timelines within a highly regulated financial environment.
We are looking for
Students ready to start the summer program in June 2026 and finish their studies in summer 2027 (going into your final year at university after the internship).
The ability to be open and collaborative in a multicultural environment.
High proficiency in English (Chinese and any other language is a plus).
Strong Microsoft Office skills.
Previous work experience in the banking industry or related field would be an advantage
Availability for a full-time summer internship from June to July 2026.

Location: Based in Hong Kong/ Singapore, you will become part of an international business working with teams across different geographies.
Duration: The duration of the Program is 8 weeks, starting from 8 June to 31 July 2026.

What we are looking for
Penultimate year of undergraduate studies with a strong interest in finance and solid analytical skills are highly valued. Commitment, teamwork, and excellent communication skills are also key to excel in a diverse and global environment such as Santander CIB.

High proficiency in English (any other languages would be a plus).
