Minimum Qualifications Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarian's license plus one of the following: Three years of experience as a sanitarian; OR A master's degree in public health, food science, dairy science, environmental or sanitary science, or one of the physical or biological sciences plus two years of experience as a sanitarian. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: • Leads and manages the Individual Sewage Program across the region, providing expert guidance to staff and public officials while ensuring compliance with the Louisiana Administrative Code Title 51, Part XIII. • Conducts and oversees field inspections of individual sewage systems, including installation reviews, re-inspections, and technical evaluations, resolving compliance issues and supporting parish staff as needed. • Trains and supports staff, including field training for new personnel, ongoing education for permanent staff, and testing and licensing for sewage installers and coordinators. • Handles complex administrative tasks, including maintaining records, preparing reports, reviewing applications, issuing enforcement notices, and ensuring timely submission of program documentation. • Coordinates parish audits and surveys, evaluating local program performance, ensuring consistency in documentation and enforcement, and promoting adherence to sanitation standards. • Serves as a technical resource to parishes with limited staff, responds to public complaints, represents OPH at public meetings and court proceedings, and supports emergency response efforts across the region.
