Position Summary

Fosters, directly and indirectly, by action, example and training, a comprehensive safety program throughout the Portland Large Parts Campus. Monitors potential health and safety conditions of the workplace; identifies problems, recommends solutions, and ensures that the on-going safety system is corrected to incorporate the changes.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Develops and audits safety procedures, practices and activities that support business goals and objectivesImplements, through supervisors and managers, an effective safety performance tracking and measurement system. Collaborates on a scheduled basis with management/departments to interpret the results and effects of the corrective actionsSupport and investigates incidents at multiple sites  Leads line supervision and Safety team members in the development of required revisions to existing procedures, rules and regulationsKeeps abreast with technical developments and OSHA related regulations that affect the safety considerations for operations. Incorporates new information into existing operations, where applicableLeads the review of all incidents. Responsible for effective operations record keeping and OSHA document compliance, and working with Workers Compensation and management to mitigate future incidentsServes as an advisor to safety committees at multiple locationsConsults with Engineering and Maintenance departments on major plans and specifications for new or proposed changes in process, equipment or methods and reviews for compliance with safety standards before acceptance or useCollaborates with supervision in the administration of the Light Duty Work Program and in the assignment of eligible employees in accordance with established practicesDrives safety requirements to Engineering and Maintenance departments regarding outside contractor’s safety requirementsMaintains knowledge of the Corporate Loss Control Program, manuals, rules and regulations and in proper communication of such programs, rules and regulationsAssists and advises supervisory staff in proper administration of the Corporate Loss Control Program, including, but not limited to:Discusses complaints and suggestions received in writing relating to safety conditions with the affected supervisionBy observation of physical conditions and work practices, detects lack of conformity with the Loss Control Program and drives the corrective action with supervisionProvides technical training on observing unsafe acts to management and supervision and monitors the training effectiveness

Required Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, 8-10 years of related and progressively more complex experience. Required transportation with a valid Driver’s License Preferred Certifications OSHA 30 HAZWOPER 40 Hazard Identification Hot Work knowledge Confined space rescue or supervisor certification Chemical Safety Ergonomics Emergency Response Root Cause Methodologies
