Job Summary

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for assisting project management teams to manage their safety functions, observing day-to-day operations while ensuring compliance with applicable state and/or federal safety standards, and conducting needed safety training and safety meetings. 

Essential Functions

Assist with injury care and case management, and workers' compensation cases Conduct or assist with various safety training topics and conduct monthly safety training  Help projects track risk/loss and assist projects with site safety assessment Meet with project operations teams to review accidents and injuries and work on preventive measures Help implement the drug and alcohol program and conduct on-site drug screens Assist with the corporate DOT program and reviewing state DOT requirements

Required Skills & Experience

6 months to 1 year of heavy highway construction safety experience Associate or bachelor’s degree in a safety-related discipline preferred Field operations experience is strongly preferred Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and safety strategies to promote effective local and state safety compliance Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented Strong leadership skills Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Strong verbal and written communication skills Must be able to conduct presentations to large groups in Spanish and English Must be able to work nights Must be able to work weekends (in person as needed, or on call) Must have a clean driving record and pass a criminal background check
