Volt is immediately hiring a Principal Engineer of Safety Analysis, remote in the United States.
This is a direct placement opportunity with a generous compensation package including RSUs and bonus.
As a Principal Engineer of Safety Analysis you will:
Develop a safety analysis plan. Perform independent engineering design studies and verifications and lead design reviews in areas of expertise. Interface with engineering services suppliers to achieve project outcomes and address complex technical issues. Participate in the development of reload licensing methodologies and assist in the regulatory review and approval process. Interface with customers to incorporate plant-specific and cycle-specific design input into reload engineering and transient analyses. Develop design procedures and implement processes to support reload licensing activities. Provide technical and project leadership in areas of expertise, and support other functions as needed within the organization.

The ideal candidate will have:
Principal Engineer, Safety Analysis
•BS Degree in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field + 14 years relevant experience, or MS Degree in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field + 12 years relevant experience, or PhD in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field + 10 years relevant experience. For exceptional candidates, relevant work experience may substitute for years of experience.
•Senior Engineer, Safety Analysis
oBS Degree in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field + 5 years relevant experience, or MS Degree in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field + 4 years relevant experience, or PhD in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field + 3 years relevant experience. For exceptional candidates, relevant work experience may substitute for years of experience.
•Expertise in the accident analysis of commercial LWRs, with a strong foundation in two-phase flow and boiling heat transfer fundamentals.
•Substantial experience in fuel vendor or utility engineering, with a focus on reload safety analysis and plant licensing basis.
•Substantial experience with LWR transient and loss-of-coolant accident analysis methodologies, including the treatment of uncertainties for best-estimated approaches
•Expertise with reactor safety codes, such as the family of RETRAN, RELAP5, and TRAC codes.
•Programming skills (e.g., C++, Python) to implement automation of reload engineering tasks, and familiarity with Linux based operating systems.
•Prior work experience under the quality requirements of 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix B.
•Experience in maintaining engineering computer programs in compliance with ASME NQA-1 standards for software quality.
•Experience working closely with industry, national laboratories, and nuclear regulators is a plus!
Salary: $135,000-$200,000 DOE +
