Job DescriptionThe Payroll Accounting Team Lead is responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll accounting process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of deliverables. This role provides leadership and guidance to a team of payroll accountants, oversees complex reconciliations and journal entries, and partners with Payroll, HR, and Finance stakeholders to ensure the integrity of payroll-related financial data. The Payroll Team Lead drives process improvements, ensures SOX and audit compliance, and fosters a culture of accountability and operational excellence.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Lead and manage a team of payroll process lead, Sr. Specialists, and Specialists to deliver accurate and timely payroll accounting results.Oversee the preparation, review, and posting of payroll journals, accruals, and reconciliations.Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and statutory reporting requirements.Review and approve reconciliations to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation.Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits related to payroll accounting.Partner with Payroll Operations, HR, and Finance to investigate and resolve discrepancies.Monitor performance against SLAs and ensure timely submission of all deliverables.Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, standardization, and control enhancement.Coach and mentor team members, fostering professional growth and high performance.Prepare and present reports and analytics on payroll accounting performance, variances, and trends.Ensure appropriate back-up coverage and business continuity within the team.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related fieldMinimum of 6–8 years of accounting experience, including 3+ years in payroll accounting and team leadershipStrong understanding of end-to-end payroll accounting processes, including accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysisExperience in systems such as Workday, ADP, Oracle, or SAPCPA qualification preferred but not requiredFamiliarity with Blackline or similar reconciliation tools is an advantageStrong analytical, leadership, and stakeholder management skillsExcellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skillsAbility to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environmentAdditional Information
