Responsibilities

A Research Fellow position is now available in the Neuroregeneration and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory under the mentorship of Dr. Isobel Scarisbrick. Our team is integrated with the Mayo Clinic Center for Biotherapeutics and the Center for Multiple Sclerosis and Autoimmune Neurology. Our research focuses on fundamental mechanisms of neural repair and intersects molecular and systems neuroscience with an eye towards translational significance. The research is funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Minnesota State SCI and TBI Research Program. The PI is dedicated to the career advancement of each team member.

The successful candidate will perform research that:

Spans cellular and molecular mechanisms of neural injury and regenerationFocuses on murine modeling, including neurodevelopmental disorders, neurotrauma, neurodegeneration and demyelinating diseasesUtilizes transgenic mouse models, stem cell engraftment, and pharmacologic approaches to unleash neural regeneration The project will require the implementation of several technologies, from in vitro studies with primary murine and human cells, in vivo experiments in murine models, and bioinformatics approaches.Opportunities to integrate studies that utilize human specimens and patient records is also available

A Research Fellow position in Life Sciences (LS) will require knowledge of either clinical-based research or laboratory-based research often obtained from a postdoctoral program.

Qualifications
Must have a Ph.D. doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program and be within 3 years of completing their PhD doctoral degree. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.

Eligible candidates will have:

A Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology and/or Immunology (but other degree emphasis may be considered)Strong skills in molecular and cell biology techniques, animal handling, primary cultures, iPSC neural stem cell technologies, and quantitative analysisExperience working with murine genetic modelsWorking knowledge of models of neural injury and regenerationHigh quality research publicationsA competitive desire to apply for National research grants to advance careerWillingness to lead independent research projects and to participate in team centered research studies


Regardless of Ph.D. degree emphasis, experience in neuroscience would be considered an asset, as would a particular interest in neural regeneration. 

Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
