Scope of Position: The Rockwall Maintenance and Safety Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of our rock-climbing facility. This multifaceted position encompasses several key responsibilities aimed at maintaining the integrity of our Rockwall and upholding stringent safety standards for both staff and patrons.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge Required: Read, write, and speak English language to express ideas and communicate effectively; safe fitness practices. Strong knowledge of industry safety standards, equipment maintenance protocols, and risk management practices. Skills Required: Proficiency in rock wall construction, maintenance, and repair techniques. Physical fitness and agility to perform routine maintenance tasks and safely navigate climbing structures. Abilities Required: Multi-task and follow instructions to complete tasks in a safe and effective manner; Interact with individuals using generally accepted business behaviors and standards; use interpersonal skills to deal effectively with others in favorable and unfavorable situations; respond appropriately to emergency situations. Maintain detailed records of route configurations, equipment inspections, maintenance activities, and incident reports. Collaborate with management to develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and training materials.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in training new employees. Set routes. Monitor Rock Wall Climbing Area to ensure a safe and clean environment. Monitor Rock Wall Climbing Equipment and proper functionality. Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform belay operations. Medium work. Exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 45 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist body, stand for short/long periods of time, kneel push, pull, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, climb stairs, close vision, distance vision, smell, talk, hear, have eye-hand coordination, have manual dexterity, speak and read English and work in noisy areas. Must be physically able to give emergency care if a situation arises. Ability to cover a shift at the Rockwall when and only if asked to.Working Conditions: The Rock Wall Maintenance and Safety Specialist must possess the ability to work independently and autonomously to complete all tasks necessary for maintaining the safety and functionality of the climbing wall. Must demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness in identifying and addressing maintenance issues, route setting requirements, and safety concerns with minimal supervision. Strong communication skills are essential for the Rock Wall Maintenance and Safety Specialist to liaise effectively with the Sports and Fitness Coordinator and Sports & Fitness Lead.

Education and Work Experience:
Work/Professional Experience: Experience in rock climbing, sports and outdoor recreation, rock wall maintenance, route setting experience, equipment, and inspection experience preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience in rock climbing facility operations, route setting, or outdoor rock climbing preferredLicense and Certifications:
Certification in First Aid, CPR & AED is required. Climbing instructor certification as well as climbing course experience and instructor experience for climbing programs preferred.
