Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking a Roads & Bridges Engineer – Airport Project to join our team. This position is based on-site, out of Mississauga. We are seeking professionals to join our team to help us build one of the most advanced, sustainable and passenger-friendly airports in the world.
Major Responsibilities:
Provides expert advice and guidance throughout the planning, design, and implementation phases of the program related to roads, bridges, culverts, and associated transportation infrastructure, ensuring full compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project-specific requirements.
Ensures that road and bridge infrastructure—including supporting civil systems—is designed and constructed in accordance with technical specifications, codes, and standards through comprehensive design reviews, evaluation of submittals, and robust quality assurance processes. This includes:
Conducting Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for all proposed upgrades, alterations, maintenance, and new construction to confirm adherence to relevant regulations and standards, and evaluating the appropriateness of methodologies, criteria, and designs.
Providing off-site engineering support through field inspections at various construction stages to verify that road and bridge works are executed in line with approved plans and specifications.
Leads and advises on servicing infrastructure related to roads, bridges, culverts, and related systems, ensuring proper integration with broader infrastructure networks such as water, sanitary sewer, stormwater systems, underground lift stations, and parking structures.
Engages with internal stakeholders to assess the capacity, performance, and reliability of both existing and proposed servicing infrastructure and provides informed recommendations.
Evaluates alternative technical proposals from contractors, assessing feasibility and alignment with project requirements.
Oversees the technical components of road and bridge infrastructure within the program, setting performance targets and delivery goals.
Facilitates interdisciplinary coordination among engineering and architectural teams to ensure cohesive integration across facilities, programs, and assets.
Reviews contractor/designer deliverables to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
Monitors designer input throughout construction—including RFIs, shop drawings, material and mock-up approvals, and punch list items—to ensure quality and conformance.
Prepares and delivers management-level reports and briefings on design progress, key issues, and opportunities.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:
University Degree in Civil Engineering with 4 years of experience in the planning, design, and implementation phases of projects related to roads, bridges, culverts, and associated transportation infrastructure.Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
Preferred Requirements:
Registered Professional Engineer licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario.
A minimum of 7 years of experience in the design, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of civil infrastructure, with a focus on pavements, roads, bridges, culverts, and other transportation components supporting major developments, including infrastructure that meets airport-specific and Canadian aerodrome standards.
In-depth knowledge of local, provincial, and federal regulations, codes, and standards applicable to the design of civil transportation infrastructure, including roadways and bridges.
Proven experience in the design, maintenance, and rehabilitation of civil infrastructure—such as roads, vehicular bridges, tunnels, box culverts, and pavements—in accordance with standards including the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6), Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) guidelines, Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) requirements, Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS), Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) Book 7, and other relevant CSA codes.
Strong expertise in pavement evaluation, geometric roadway design standards, and underground servicing systems, including stormwater drainage.
OSIM bridge inspection training or experience is considered an asset.
Familiarity with airport infrastructure standards such as TP312, ICAO, FAA, and ACI is highly desirable.
Demonstrated proficiency in design and modeling software, including MicroStation, AutoCAD, BIM, and Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads Designer, or other relevant platforms.
Experience applying asset management principles to bridges, roadway networks, municipal services, and related infrastructure such as culverts and retaining walls.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to lead and facilitate meetings or workshops involving large, multidisciplinary stakeholder groups.
Additional InformationThis position requires work on-site/out of the office 5 days a week.
