Job Description: Road Safety Specialist

Position Details

Location: Local

Work Pattern: 5/2 – Daily Basis

Reporting To: Safety Section Head & Road Safety Lead

Minimum Years of Experience: 5

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a relevant field to road safety or management

Key Responsibilities

Provide advice and operational support to the Road Safety Lead and Safety Team to ensure effective management of Road & Transportation Safety operations across project sites and roads.

Conduct patrolling, monitoring, inspections, and road checks.

Interface with local authorities, contractors, and communities as needed.

Support road diversions, closures, and site investigations.

Identify, assess, and report road safety hazards and assist in mitigation.

Support audits, hazard hunts, and inspections.

Contribute to speed and fatigue management measures.

Work closely with the site safety team to support safety initiatives and road safety culture.

Review and verify road safety-related plans and risk assessments in line with international standards.

Prepare, update, and review road safety procedures and manuals.

Maintain and ensure compliance with road safety registers, schedules, and inspection records.

Document and report on incidents, audits, and non-compliance, providing recommendations and lessons learned.

Generate daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inspection/patrolling reports and site observation reports.

Develop strong communication channels with stakeholders.

Support and maintain interface agreements related to road safety activities.

Design and deliver road safety training and awareness sessions.

Coach and mentor drivers, contractors, and personnel on best practices and safe behavior.

Provide oversight, coaching, and coordination for internal and contractor road safety teams.

Ensure safe working practices and efficient resource use.

Conduct contractor audits, inspections, and supervision as required.

Conduct audits and field inspections on transportation operations, vehicle compliance, and site activities.

Verify adherence to internal safety policies and external regulatory standards.

Collaborate with the safety team to identify, assess, and control risks and workplace hazards.

Contribute to the implementation of safety initiatives and campaigns to maintain a proactive safety culture.

Competencies & Skills

Skilled in delivering road safety training and providing practical guidance.

Strong leadership and team management capabilities.

Effective decision-maker under pressure, especially in high-risk situations.

Excellent verbal, written, and business communication skills.

Proven track record in vehicle inspections, road safety patrols, and incident response.

Familiarity with international road safety standards and management systems (e.g., ISO 39001).

Knowledge of transport policies and regulatory requirements.

Knowledge, Experience & Business Accomplishments Required

Proven extensive 5+ years in road safety activities, working with road safety teams and implementing road safety systems within the oil & gas or heavy industry sectors.

NEBOSH certification or equivalent.

Defensive Driving Training (DDT).

First Aid/CPR certification.

ISO 39001 or other road safety-related certifications are a plus.

Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
