We are seeking a Roads Design Lead with relevant experience in across all stages of transport projects including roads, public transport, Active Travel and public realm projects. The candidate will join our growing Highways and Transportation business and will be based in our Cork office. The candidate should be self‑motivated, enthusiastic, hard working, flexible, willing to take on responsibility and comfortable working as part of a team. The role will involve leading the design of roads, public transport, Active Travel and public realm projects throughout Ireland through the feasibility, optioneering, planning, detailed design and construction stages.
Your RoleDesign Lead on multi‑disciplinary transportation projects including roads, public transport, Active Travel and public realm projects.Co-ordination of multi-disciplinary design team on Employer Design/ Design and Build contracts.Responsibility for design and production of design outputs through all stages - feasibility, optioneering, planning, detailed design and construction stages.Line management and mentoring of more junior staff.Transportation EngineeringAbout youEducated to degree level (level 8/9 engineering degree).Relevant postgraduate experience, primarily in a consultancy environment.Chartered with Engineers Ireland or equivalent professional institution or very close to attaining that status.Experience in the delivery of multi‑disciplinary transportation (roads, public transport, Active Travel, public realm) projects in Ireland/UK and the ability to deliver a full design pack (drawings and documentation) for the relevant design stage.Computer literate and with experience of relevant design software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads, Microdrainage, Navisworks etc).Knowledge of relevant design standards, and ability to translate this knowledge into practical, buildable and value for money designs.High level understanding and awareness of all elements involved in roads design including geometry, drainage, utilities, geotechnics, road pavements, road signs and markings, Vehicle Restraint Systems, etc.Ability to co-ordinate a multi‑disciplinary design team, check and review designs from other design disciplines, manage clashes and ability/ willingness to make design decisions.Strong growth potential to take on more senior roles and responsibilities.Ability to work collaboratively with, report to and manage clients and project stakeholders.An awareness of developing technologies and best practice in the industry.Effective communicator (written, verbal & presentations).Experience in the construction stage of projects i.e. Employer design or design and build projects.Experience in planning and design of transportation projects (preferably in Ireland) including feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design, statutory processes, preparation of contract documents, contact administration and construction supervision.Full Irish / EU driving licence.Rewards & benefitsExplore the rewards and benefits that help you thrive – at every stage of your life and your career.
