The Cardiac Device Clinic specializes in the treatment of patients with cardiac rhythm disorders. Typical procedures include pacemaker and ICD implantation, ablation of cardiac arrhythmias, left atrial appendage occlusion device implantation, cardioversions, and tilt table studies. This clinic uses cutting edge technology, including the use of a robotic magnetic navigation system to accommodate the intricate cases they see. World-class physicians attract a complex patient population in which the Cardiac Device Clinic serves excellent outcomes.  

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Director of the Heart & Vascular Center and the Manager of the Electrophysiology Lab, the RN Specialist for Cardiac Devices is responsible for providing pacemaker/defibrillator and implantable loop recorder implementation preparation and follow-up care to aid in the treatment of diseases of the conduction system. This team is very supportive of their professional development as cardiac nurses and provides a clear career path within industry. 

How You’ll Benefit 

Our Center for Workplace Violence Prevention and Caregiver Well-Being sets caregiver safety as a priority, identifying, reporting and responding to incidents and providing safety resources. 

A caregiver in this position works days Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Provides pacemaker/defibrillator implantation preparation including pre and post implant patient and family teaching, pre-discharge threshold testing, and follow up outpatient monitoring.Provides implantable loop recorder pre and post implant instructions to the patient and family and follow up outpatient monitoring.Receives and processes transtelephonic data from pacemaker and arrhythmia patients.Prepares and educates patients, families, and employees about procedures to be administered.Maintains and updates patient records.Maintains and updates device tracking records for statistical and alert/recall purposes.Maintains equipment in proper working condition and notifies Biomedical Engineering when new programmers are received. Notifies manufacturer representative when equipment is defective and removes equipment from service.Assists with departmental quality improvement review, projects and initiatives.Participates in community outreach events sponsored by AGMC/HVC.Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintains required CPR.Remains flexible to work in and cross train between other areas in the Heart and Vascular Center.Supports and participates in community wellness programs.Serves as preceptor for university students in nursing and/or other health sciences.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (ADN or BSN program) Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross One year of recent RN experience 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red CrossStrong cardiac background Electrophysiology experience


Physical Requirements:

Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
