Working together, we exist to serve the changing health care needs of our community. We will provide personalized patient care known for quality and excellence with a healing environment through caring relationships. JOB SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Adheres to all hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital’s Standards of Excellence. Assists with the development of patient care standards, orientation, and continuing education. Evaluates staff performance in accordance with organizational policies. Participates in nursing Quality Improvement. Maintains unit administration including scheduling and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide age-specific treatment and care. Functions as Administrative Shift Supervisor, as needed. Refer to Administrative Supervisor/RN job description #0064. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, and current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license. Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, must obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 30 days of hire and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 6 months of hire. Requires NIHSS Stroke Certification within 90 days of hire. Minimum of 3 years acute nursing experience with demonstrated leadership skills. SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Capable organizational ability and leadership skills. Demonstrated clinical nursing skills across the life span. Knowledge and ability to apply current theories, techniques, and practices of nursing within his/her specialty area. Competent cardiac monitoring skills, including use of equipment. Critical thinking skills in the planning and administration of department resources. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS: Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable disease and risk of injury from lifting patients and operation of equipment. WORK CONTACT GROUP: All patient-related hospital departments, patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel, and medical staff. SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, lift and transport patients. Must be able to bend, stoop, push and pull. Walks and stands for most of the working day. Coaches, mentors and provides opportunities to expand employee’s skills and knowledge. + Monitors competency training, provides support, and assures processes are completed. + Develops and manages the monthly schedule including vacation coverage, sick / health leave coverage, and staffing to anticipated census fluctuations. + Adjusts staffing and assignments concurrently and for oncoming shifts to census, patient needs, and productivity requirements. Coordinates assignments based on the needs of the patient and the skill level of the staff. Coordinates and facilitates patient admission processes between departments. + Coordinates breaks and work processes; assuring assignments are completed within a timely manner. + Plans for effective shift changes. Guides staff and assures compliance with departmental standards for the completion of shift change walking rounds in each patient room. + Participates in maintaining budgetary expectations, guiding shift work activities and staff assignments within productivity standards, as outlined by the unit leader. + Looks for opportunities to promote staff education and training with consideration for cost effectiveness within budgetary constraints. Partners with the unit leader and clinical educator to support nursing education efforts. + Identifies adverse changes in patient status, provides staff support and assistance as needed mentoring for positive patient outcomes. Reports adverse outcomes per standards and in a timely and thorough manner. Troubleshoots processes with a focus towards preventing problems before they occur. + Participates in all departmental quality improvement processes, assigned tasks, and projects.
