Position Summary:
The Perinatal Educator functions as an active member of the family’s health care team with a primary focus of promoting healthy perinatal practices, pregnancy and birth outcomes. They will facilitate positive transition to parenting, early parenting and safety skills, and infant feeding practices. The perinatal educator utilizes clinical and educational expertise to design, teach and evaluate community and system perinatal educational programs and materials. Other duties include, but are not limited to:
Design, deliver and evaluate educational programs that help a family’s transition through pregnancy to parenthood Provide education and personal interaction that reflects system customer service standards Conduct needs assessment to determine class goals and appropriate class learning strategies Provide information about the physiology, psychology and sociology of pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, baby care, baby feeding and early parenthood, as well as the skills to assist women and their support persons to cope with pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and early parenthood.
