As an Obstetrics Data Specialist RN, you are responsible for developing, managing and maintaining an obstetrical data registry for the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), educational purposes and quality monitoring. You will prepare reports monthly and annually regarding obstetrical and newborn patients at Akron General Medical Center. This role is critical for managing essential information, including OB Birth Certificates, Paternity Affidavits, delivery stats, ODH logbooks and more. Your efforts will support the entire New Lifes Center, offering a unique opportunity to make a lasting difference in your community every day. 

 

A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00AM – 4:30PM or 7:00AM – 3:30PM. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Develop, manage and maintain a registry of obstetrical data for the Ohio Department of Health, education and research.  

Maintain the Vermont-Oxford Network (VON) maternal database and the Ohio Perinatal Quality Collaborative (OPQC) database. 

Attend and participate in OPQC learning sessions and action calls representing AGMC NLC. 

Prepare monthly maternal transport reports and attend monthly regional meetings representing AGMC NLC. 

Retrieve data from obstetrical and newborn/neonatal medical records and maintain database with at least 95% accuracy rate. 

Prepare monthly AGMC obstetrical volume statistics for finance. 

Prepare and submit annual Labor and Delivery statistics to the ODH. 

Compile quality monitoring information in collaboration with New Life Center Directors for purposes of presentation and sharing. 

Assist with the Perinatal Regional Grant Program by performing maternal tracking, chart reviews and reports as requested. 

Help complete the Medical and Health Information areas on the birth certificates and assist in submitting them to ODH. 

Maintain current knowledge and skills required to collect and submit ODH and other report data consistent with Level III obstetrical service. 

Maintain current knowledge and skills required to collect, process and download birth certificates and other data consistent with the standards of ODH and Vital Statistics. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing 

Five years of clinical maternity experience 

Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Access, Word. Excel, PowerPoint) and educational media to create engaging and effective reports and graphs 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

Works in an environment where there is some discomfort due to dust, noise, temperature.

Requires extensive walking, telephone use, bending, reaching, and lifting items weighing twenty pounds or less.

Must be able to work well under pressure and maintain professional demeanor under adverse conditions.

Extensive reading, writing, use of pagers, fax machines, computers, and copiers.
