Cleveland Clinic's Emergency Department (ED) has a 23-hour observation unit that provides patients with additional time for evaluation and treatment. Patients may be referred to the observation unit if their condition requires more time than the ED can provide, or if their condition is not clear after an ED visit. During observation, patients may receive additional blood tests, X-rays, consultations with specialists, and treatment. After 24 hours, doctors will re-examine the patient to determine if they need further treatment or can go home. Patients may be discharged home or admitted to the hospital based on their progress. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program) + Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) + Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) + One year of current acute care RN or Emergency Department experience. Will consider military RN experience Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) + Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). This will be required within one year of start date + Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
