Caregivers in Lutheran Hospital’s Emergency Department provide care to all patient populations, ranging from infants to geriatrics, and ensure that each patient’s visit is as comfortable and stress-free as possible. As an RN on this unit, you will care for pre-surgical patients and those requiring antibiotic therapy and wound care, perform advanced dressing changes and assist with bedside thoracentesis and paracentesis procedures while collaborating with fellow caregivers to provide a welcoming, healing and safe environment for all patients. You will focus on enhancing care, helping facilitate a transformative experience for patients of all ages, medical histories and demographics.

 

This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working 48 hours within a 6-week period on varying shifts between 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Provide direct nursing care. 

Implement and monitor patient care plans.  

Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.  

Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  

Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. 

Maintain professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) through American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or within one year of hire

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC - adult) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire or within 24 months of hire

External applicants: two years of recent related nursing experience

Internal applicants: less than two years of experience, but post-orientation/90-day probationary period considered with the Chief Nursing Officer level review and approval

Military RN experience considered

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
