The Main Campus Emergency Department provides top-quality care to patients 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Caregivers treat over 61,000 adult and pediatric patients annually, providing a critical link to healthcare for our community, the region, and the world (through Cleveland Clinic Critical Care Transport). The number of resources at the Main Campus Emergency Department is vast with pharmacy, respiratory, care management, imaging, a split flow/fast-track area, and a Clinical Decision Unit. RNs can become a Certified Emergency Nurse, work on other certifications that Cleveland Clinic offers, and grow into leadership roles.   

 

As a Registered Nurse in these specialized units, you will play a vital role in advancing exceptional patient outcomes by leveraging innovative, evidence-based technologies and best practices. You will build meaningful connections with patients, families, and visitors, enhancing their overall care experience through compassionate education, advocacy, and support. Cleveland Clinic is deeply committed to your professional growth, offering robust continuing education opportunities along with online and in-person courses designed to elevate nursing practices. 

 

A caregiver in this position works from, 7:00am—7:30pm or 7:00pm—7:30am. Rotating weekends and holidays. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Provide direct nursing care. 

Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.  

Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.  

Administer prescribed medications and treatments. 

Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  

Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. 

Educate patients and their families.   

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program) 

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 

If in an ED, ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within one year of beginning work in the Emergency Department. 

High volume emergency department experience 

Minimum one year current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting required for acute care settings. 

Minimum one year current acute care RN experience and/or Emergency Department (ED) experience required for ED settings 

Military RN experience will be considered 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) 


Physical Requirements:

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
