Medina Hospital’s Emergency Department serves all patients seeking emergency care — inclusive of all ages from neonate to geriatric, and regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or ability to pay. As an RN in the ED, you will provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

Our Center for Workplace Violence Prevention and Caregiver Well-Being sets caregiver safety as a priority, identifying, reporting and responding to incidents and providing safety resources. 

A caregiver in this role works day/evening/night/weekend shifts from 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 a.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

Implement and monitor patient care plans.

Monitor, record and communicate patient conditions as appropriate.

Monitor and document patient's condition and effectiveness and timeliness of care and/or interventions.

Evaluate, update and revise plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.

Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.

Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing protocol.

Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.

Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.

Prep patient for surgery.

Assess educational needs of the patient and significant others considering cultural issues and other special concerns.

Provide teaching and educational material as appropriate.

Validate and document patient and family understanding of teaching.

Maintain professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.

 
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 

One year of current acute care RN experience and/or Emergency Department (ED) experience required for ED settings OR licensed military RN experience

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

If in an ED, ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) through American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or within one year of beginning work in the Emergency Department

 
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) 

Experienced RNs with ED background

Physical Requirements:

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
