RN Educator/ Infection Preventionist

This position primarily works Monday-Friday 8am to 4:30pm, approximately 40 hours per week. This position also participates in a leadership on-call rotation, including shared weekday call, every 7th weekend, and every 7th holiday. The salary for this position starts at $65,000/year for little to no experience.
Under the direction of the Director of Nursing and in collaboration with other members of the rehabilitation team, the Nurse Educator/ Infection Preventionist works to consistently ensure proper staff education in accordance with updated procedures and evidence based practice, and leads and directs a robust team in the identification and implementation of infection prevention goals and objectives throughout the facility, including:
+ Understanding and complying with infection control procedures and regulations.
+ Partnering with the Medical Provider to develop, implement and evaluate annual infection prevention goals and action plans
+ Partnering with facility leaders, physicians, local, state, and national agencies on activities related to infection prevention
+ Overseeing the operations of the infection prevention, epidemiology, industrial hygiene, and relevant safety programs
+ Managing surveillance and reporting of healthcare-acquired and community-acquired infections
+ Participating in national collaboratives and external reporting to the CDC NHSN system, IDPH, and quality organizations specific to post-acute care
+ Authority and responsibility for ensuring appropriate intervention and education occurs with staff, volunteers and medical staff when healthcare infection trends, outbreaks or non-compliance to infection control are identified
+ Maintaining current knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and ensuring that the facility leaders are informed of relevant issues.
+ Assists in education, monitoring and coaching the nursing staff on continuous quality improvement measures, and assists in implementing nursing policies and procedures
+ Provides hands on education to nursing staff on a routine basis
+ Performs monthly audits and oversight on nursing team skills
+ Educates team members on new processes and equipment as needed
+ Monitors compliance of nursing team members including LMS, Mandatory Reporter, CPR, and Licensures
+ Meets with all new hires at day of orientation with follow up during first 30 days of employment
+ Collaborates with other members of the nursing leadership team to provide support and coverage for other leaders as needed

Qualified applicants must have:
+ Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa
+ Experience in leadership is preferred but not required
