These 24-bed cardiovascular telemetry units specialize in post-open heart, surgical, and ventricular assist device patients. The units are fast-paced and provide excellent opportunities in nursing growth and development with the ability to care for patients undergoing innovative procedures. Patient population includes post heart surgery patients such as: 

Coronary artery bypass surgery 

Minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery 

Ventricular assist devices 

Valve replacement or repair 

Other procedures, such as maze procedure, endarterectomy, aneurysm repair 


Other Common Cardiac-Related Admissions: 

Angina/myocardial infraction 

Congestive heart failure 

Arrhythmias, such as supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia (VT) 

Permanent pacemaker and defibrillator insertion and removal 


Nursing on these units provide: 

Patient education - addressing the unique discharge needs for this specific patient population 

Specialized teams to provide optimal delivery of care 

Opportunities for community involvement related to education and training 

 
A caregiver in this PRN position works variable shifts, from 7:00am—7:30pm. 

 
A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Provide direct nursing care. 

Implement and monitor patient care plans.  

Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.  

Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  

Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. 

 
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program) 

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

Successfully pass all prescreen competency assessments 

External applicants: two years of recent related nursing experience  

Internal applicants with less than two years’ experience, but post orientation/90-day probationary period, could be considered with the Chief Nursing Officer level review and approval  

Will consider military RN experience 

 
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
