Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Spring Hill on a full-time basis.

The Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Area Manager to lead and direct manufacturing departmental operations or plant operations. This role requires substantial creativity, perception, and initiative, with significant latitude for independent judgment and action. You will manage a large group of hourly and salaried employees over multiple shifts and have immediate responsibility over people leaders in manufacturing operations. Your primary goal will be to ensure that organizational or divisional production objectives are achieved at the lowest cost consistent with quality requirements.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

Develop and drive a safety culture within the plant.

Provide daily strategic direction at the facility with RESS operations or across plant departments.

Support safety culture through audits, observation, and incident investigation.

Advise senior manufacturing leadership on processes/products with short to mid-term impact.

Design and develop strategies, policies, or original solutions to highly complex issues.

Negotiate with internal and/or external parties where interests are not aligned.

Oversee daily manpower within the site and strategic long-term manpower planning.

Champion site-wide BPD activities.

Enforce contractual requirements (local/national contracts).

Coach, train, develop, and evaluate salaried teams.

Achieve Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environmental metrics and budget goals.

Lead through teaching GMS operating requirements and serve as GMS principal lead for regional GMS activities.

Maintain strong relationships with other departments, plants, and external customers.

Participate in the selection of salaried people leaders.

Maintain corporate and unit management control systems, budget, and other information necessary to monitor performance.

Constantly work to improve the “Workplace of Choice” environment.

Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to company policies and procedures.

Comply with the terms of local and national labor agreements.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

7+ years of experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

5+ years of leadership/supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.

High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

High level of oral and written communication skills.

Experience/knowledge of GM Global Manufacturing System (GMS).

Knowledge of quality control procedures, manufacturing processes, and management systems as they relate to production operations.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or equivalent.

Experience working in a manufacturing and/or union represented work environment. 

Experience with Opex/CI problem solving tools.

Experience with Workday/Kronos timekeeping.

Understanding throughput improvement processes (TIP).
