Respiratory Therapist treat people with breathing or cardiopulmonary problems from new babies to elderly patients. We focus on educating our patients with proper technique on taking breathing treatments, inspiratory muscle training, and also help in diagnosing and treating lung diseases.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assess and provide care for all segments of the patient population served by our organization.
2. Administer all therapies ordered by the providers and to complete any necessary documentation of said therapy.
3. Perform any diagnostic testing offered by the department.
4. Perform Quality and Proficiency testing in accordance with department policy.
5. Respond to both patient care emergency situations and the hospital’s emergency action plan.
6. Complete inspection, maintenance, and restocking of supplies and equipment.
7. Other duties as assigned by management.

The Lead Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing clinical respiratory care leadership and direct patient care to neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy, objectives, standards of care, and procedures of respiratory care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides clinical leadership and staff guidance within the Respiratory Services department, including staff assignments, staff productivity, and mentoring.Assists with revision, development, and implementation of policy and procedures to ensure departmental effectiveness.Provides and coordinates Respiratory Care related educational and staff development activities and assists with development/coordination of programs for physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare team members as requested.Assists in assuring compliance with Joint Commission standards and maintains awareness of changes in standards.May assume leadership role for Respiratory Care Services in the absence of the supervisor/manager/director. Keeps leadership informed of department activities. Immediately informs leadership of any personnel actions that may require disciplinary or corrective action, as well as those that are to be commended.Understands and follows current policies and procedures for the respiratory care service and the areas of the hospital where respiratory care is administered including but not limited to: the adult and neonatal intensive care units, during patient transport, and the emergency department areas.Documents and charges all interactions with patients according to department and hospital guidelines.Provide excellent customer services to every customer, at any time. Communicating effectively with patients, their family members, colleagues, and guests.Performs other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Registered respiratory therapist strongly preferred. Will consider a certified respiratory therapist with at least 2 years of recent acute care experience.Must have an active license as a respiratory care practitioner in the State of Iowa upon hire.Experience in another health care setting desirable, with critical care experience preferred.Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire. Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.Must be able to organize, prioritize, and function in an environment with multiple stress factors.Adaptability to perform under stress when confronted with emergent, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations, or situation in which working speed and sustained attention are vital aspects of the job.Must demonstrate the ability to exercise professional judgment in dealing with patients, physicians, and other healthcare team members.Must be able to use a computer for documentation and other relevant activities.MercyOne Central Iowa sets the standard for personalized and radically convenient care in the Des Moines metro area and surrounding counties.
