Job Description
The Resource Management & Discovery Librarian, under the supervision of the Executive Director, Library and Special Collections, oversees the Collections Services unit of the University Library, including but not limited to the license, purchase, receipt, processing, and access of all print and electronic library materials. Administrator for hosted library systems, including the library services platform, catalog, link resolver, proxy server, and website. Independently performs original and copy cataloging for print and electronic resources.
This position is on-site, located at the A&M-San Antonio Main Campus in San Antonio, Texas. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; occasional evening and weekend hours.Responsibilities:
Manages Electronic Resources Access, Licensing, and Vendor Relations
+ Provides licensing, purchasing, selection, and assessment of digital and print resources (one-time purchases and subscriptions) to support learning, teaching, and research.
+ Communicates with vendors, including but not limited to price and license negotiation, renewals, cancellations, and troubleshooting regarding the library's print and electronic subscriptions.
+ Analyzes data and generates reports as needed for assessment of electronic resources.
+ Ensures resources align with accessibility policies and laws.
Oversees operations of the Collections Services Unit
+ Maintains metadata for electronic resources in the library catalog.
+ Manages the OpenURL link resolver, A-Z resources list, proxy server, Library Services Platform (currently WorldShare Management Services (WMS) by OCLC, and library catalog/ discovery platform.
+ Provides administrative oversight for the library’s website and online research guides (LibGuides).
Cataloging
+ Performs original and copy cataloging independently.
+ Appropriately applies LC subject headings and other metadata to item records.
Supervision
+ Supervises Collections Services staff.
+ May supervise student workers.
Professional Service and Development
+ Maintains currency with emerging information technologies and trends in acquisitions, cataloging, and electronic resources/ tools, anticipating and facilitating new approaches to research in response to evolving patterns of publishing and information dissemination.
+ Participates in the development of plans, policies, and procedures to support the library's mission.
+ Participates in library and campus initiatives, work groups, and committees.
Additional Duties
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
+ Master’s degree in Library Science or higher in related field.
+ Librarian I: no prior experience required.
+ Librarian II: Two (2) years of related experience in an academic library setting
Preferred Education and Experience:
+ Experience with ILS/ LSP systems such as WorldShare Management Services (OCLC) in an administrative capacity.
+ Website content management experience such as LibGuides and Cascade.
+ Experience managing budgets and serving as a responsible custodian of public funds.
+ Experience working in academic libraries.
+ Supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ Ability to develop vendor relationships and successfully negotiate license agreements.
+ Ability to communicate the budget through data visualizations and reports.
