Job Description
The Resident Engineer will work on two NYC Parks Department projects, focusing on the reconstruction of city sidewalks and tree health. The role involves managing contractors, communicating with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with project specifications.
ResponsibilitiesVisit multiple sites daily, sometimes up to 10, based on workflow.Manage small and large contractors on streets and in parks.Communicate effectively with clients, both verbally and in writing.Review contract line items and oversee services such as saw cutting, excavation, planting, concrete restoration, and punch list items.Receive daily site assignments via email from Project Manager.Meet Superintendent at job site by 7 AM.Observe and coordinate contractors on site, ensuring adequate manpower and safety measures.Ensure on-site safety, including proper use of PPE by contractors.Record and track measurements for contractor payments, based on tasks like tree planting and excavation.Utilize and understand specifications book content.Essential SkillsAssociate's degree in forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, plant science, construction project management, or civil engineering with 2 years of related work experience.Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience, Master's degree with 6 months of experience, or 3+ years of relevant experience.Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Proficiency in civil engineering, construction oversight, and inspection.Additional Skills & QualificationsKnowledge of plant species.Experience working with a landscaper for several years or summers.Vehicle required for transportation to work.Work Environment
Work is conducted throughout the five boroughs of NYC, mostly within a single borough, on Parks Department projects. The typical work schedule is from 7 AM to 3 PM. The position involves working on land level without climbing or being on active roadways.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
