Job Description
The Resident Engineer will work on two NYC Parks Department projects throughout the city.
This role involves visiting multiple sites daily, sometimes up to ten, to oversee the reconstruction of city sidewalks and tree health. The engineer will manage small and large contractors both on the streets and in the parks, requiring strong communication skills for interaction with clients and contractors. The engineer will also review contract line items and ensure oversight of activities such as saw cutting, excavation, planting, concrete restoration, and back checks to guarantee punch list completion.
ResponsibilitiesVisit multiple sites daily for project oversight.Manage and coordinate with contractors and Parks Department personnel.Ensure safety protocols are followed, including the use of PPE.Record and track measurements for contractor pay items.Communicate effectively with clients and provide detailed written and verbal reports.Use specification book and understand its contents.Ensure site safety and compliance with project requirements.Essential SkillsAssociate's degree in construction management, civil engineering with 2 years of related experience.Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience.Master's degree with 6 months of experience.Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.Proficiency in civil engineering, construction oversight, and inspection.Additional Skills & QualificationsKnowledge of plant species.Experience working for a landscaper for several years or summers.Work EnvironmentThe position involves working throughout the five boroughs of NYC, primarily tied to one borough, on Parks Department projects. The role requires the ability to travel to various sites, and all work will be conducted at ground level. The work environment supports long-term growth opportunities and offers a chance to be part of ongoing projects, such as the Street Tree Planting project, which has been active for several years. The position promises a long-term opportunity with growth potential.
Shift: The work hours are from 7 AM to 3 PM.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
