Job Description
Position Summary:Rockwell Automation's Milwaukee Advanced Technology (AT) research team is looking for a technology researcher in the field of robotics. AT is Rockwell Automation's centralized corporate research team under the office of the CTO. You will report to the Milwaukee laboratory manager.
As an industrial robotics researcher you will typically lead robotics research projects in collaboration with our Robotics Center of Excellence. Most of these projects will be related to industrial robotics and related technologies, such as control algorithms, autonomy, perception, subsystem integration, power systems, and robot safety. Researchers are given considerable latitude to select research projects that align with their current areas of expertise or desired future areas of technical growth.
We ask that you have experience creating detailed technical documentation and enjoy solving multi-disciplinary engineering problems that require diverse expertise in mechanical, electrical, and software engineering. Continuous learning is a requirement. You should already understand research processes and have initiative to seek answers independently.
Responsibilities:Research new technologies in the field of industrial robotics and related disciplines.Perform literature reviews, hands-on prototyping, experimentation, demonstration, and documentation (typically in internal reports, but occasionally in journals).Collaborate with external vendors, research partners, and standards development organizations.Identify new intellectual property.The Essentials - You Will Have:Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.The Preferred - You Might Also Have:Bachelor or Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in the following:Mechanical / Electrical / Computer / Robotics Engineering/AIComputer SciencePhysics, Applied Physics, or Engineering PhysicsMathematics or Applied MathematicsTypically requires a minimum of 5+ years experience in a research or technology development environment, ideally related to robotics.Proficiency in one or more programming languages.Excellent written and spoken technical English.Project management skills.One or more of the following representative skills:Experience working with robots in a laboratory setting or in the field.Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, and related toolboxes such as Robotics System Toolbox and Simscape Multibody.Proficiency with mathematics related to robot kinematics and dynamics, including the use of Denavit-Hartenberg parameters.Proficiency with Robot Operating System (ROS 1 or 2) and its tools, as well as experience using ROS with a robot.Experience with machine vision and perception tools.Practical experience with the design and construction of robots or robot subsystems (such as power or locomotion).What We Offer:
