Research Technologist - #Staff

The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a **_Research Technologist_** to join the Robinson lab. Under the general supervision of a faculty investigator or laboratory supervisor the technologist is responsible for performing routine analyses and tests on animal or human fluids and/or tissue. Work requires basic use of scientific methods, procedures and techniques gained through previous training and experience. Uses basic understanding of theory behind experiments and applies basic analytical skills to implement assigned projects, and to identify and trouble-shoot situations needing special attention.
**Specific Duties & Responsibilities**
+ Under initial supervision of the faculty investigator perform biological experiments.
+ Conduct independent projects and may be included as a co-author of publications resulting from work in the laboratory.
+ Use specific techniques including cell and tissue culture, PCR, DNA extraction and analysis, gel electrophoresis, flow cytometry and immunostaining.
+ Operate basic laboratory equipment and utilize sterile techniques.
+ Perform, evaluate and troubleshoot methods as necessary, prepare solutions and reagents following standard procedures
+ Keep an organized lab notebook.
+ Meet at least weekly with principal investigator to report on research and laboratory status.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Some related post-undergraduate work experience.
