Research Technologist - #Staff

The Division of Pulmonary is seeking a **_Research Technologist to_** provide operational support in the Sidhaye Lab. The technologist will oversee the maintenance of the mouse colonies. In addition, will utilize a foundation in basic laboratory techniques to work with molecular biology and primary cell culture requiring a high level of rigor and reproducibility. Assist with the planning of experiments and interpreting results. Perform data collection, prepare reports and interface with sponsors for laboratory projects.
**Specific Duties & Responsibilities**
+ Perform mouse breeding and husbandry.
+ Perform general molecular biology techniques such as cloning, qPCR, and Western blotting.
+ Conduct experiments involving propagation of tissue culture, plasmid constructions, gel electrophoresis, immunoblotting, immunohistochemical staining of cells and tissue, and RT-qPCR. (Research involves animal and human tissue).
+ Follow established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform laboratory tests and/or experiments which may include basic tissue culture, basic molecular biology, and specialized histology techniques.
+ Operate basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, pH meter, analytical balance, incubator, spectrophotometer, light microscope, and/or utilizes laminar flow hood.
+ Operate lab computers for data entry.
+ Utilize in vivo models in experiments. Following protocols, monitor animals and maintain health records in accordance with USDA and AALAC guidelines.
+ Sacrifice and dissect animal remains as required.
+ Prepare tissue for study utilizing biochemical and histochemical techniques.
+ Maintain accurate data records.
+ Maintain and make minor adjustments to equipment, e.g., calibrating, alignment.
+ Comply with biohazard/radiation safety standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents and/or radiation sources in the workplace.
+ Complete annual university biohazard/universal precaution/radiation safety training, as appropriate.
+ Use sterile techniques to avoid contaminating lab experiments.
+ Use universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers from biohazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens.
+ Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
+ Monitor inventory levels, order materials and supplies, count orders upon receipt.
+ Perform multiple tasks efficiently and correctly, often operating more than one instrument at a time.
+ Provide training to other individuals who may be assigned to the laboratory on a regular or temporary basis.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in biology, chemistry or related field
+ Experience in basic laboratory procedures.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience working with in vivo models
+ Some related post-undergraduate work experience.
+ Experience in a comparable laboratory, or a significant independent research project, not related to normal course requirements.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY (Commensurate w/exp.)

Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm. Weekends may be required.
