The Human Language Analysis Lab at Vanderbilt University seeks a Research Scientist or Senior Research Scientist for overseeing research and personnel developing and studying the use of AI language analyses for psychological assessment. This position will focus on cross-disciplinary areas of Computational Language Analysis and AI for Psychological and Health Sciences.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Research Scientist position provides strategic vision, leadership, mentorship, and direction to our diverse group of researchers for the Human Language Analysis Lab as part of the World Well-Being Project. The primary responsibilities include supervising, planning, and evaluating the activities of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, as well as providing design, instruction, and implementation for cutting-edge multi-disciplinary research projects. The incumbent allocates lab time, resources, budgets, and interfaces with university administrative personnel accordingly. In this position, they will also be responsible for leading and preparing grant proposals, contributing as a senior or lead author to impactful research publications at the intersection of AI and psychology, and expanding the missions of the HLAB.

Responsibilities:
● 25% Supervise, plan, and evaluate the activities of multiple levels of researchers including research scientists, postdoctoral associates, research support positions, and research assistants.
● 20% Provide design, instruction, and implementation for innovative multi-disciplinary research projects.
● 15% Allocation of lab time, resources, and budgets, interfacing with university administrative personnel.
● 15% Senior author or lead author impactful research manuscripts state-of-the-art impactful research at the intersection of AI and psychology,
● 15% Lead and prepare grant proposals
● 5% Modest service duties to expand the missions of the HLAB.
● 5% Other duties as required
Required Qualifications
● PhD in Psychology with extensive training in Computing-related disciplines* OR PhD in Computer Science with extensive training in Psychology-related disciplines. *
● 2 years of post-PhD research experience in computational social science, psychology and related fields. *
● Track-record of supervising cross-disciplinary research projects
● 10 peer-reviewed publications covering the use of computational techniques for psychology or utilizing social science for computational linguistics.
● Track record of methodological or tool development.

Preferred Qualifications:
● 4 years of post-PhD research experience in computational social science, psychology and related fields.
● 30 peer-reviewed publications including at least 20 lead- or senior-authored papers.
● Experience as a postdoctoral researcher or research scientist
● Experience serving on grant review committees and/or organizing research workshops.
● Track record of mentoring grad students and scientists
