Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Sustainability Research Scientist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will conduct assessments of environmental issues across various business operations and evaluate sustainability impacts throughout the value chain. You will be tasked with modeling complex systems, developing LCAs, and emission factors, as well as collecting and analyzing data to present findings through visualizations and metrics. This position requires you to work with imperfect data, quantify and identify sources of uncertainty, and apply systems thinking to solve complex problems.
ResponsibilitiesCreate and maintain LCA methodologies and models, including experimentation of footprint methods.Develop documentation and annotations for scaling purposes.Conceptualize and interpret innovative methods and standards.Perform audits and validations of methodologies or complex models.Integrate methods into existing model architectures.Design and lead research initiatives, including data collection, modeling, documentation, interpretation, and validation.Essential SkillsStrong mathematical skills and ability to apply systems thinking.Proficiency in scientific methods and international standards such as GHG Protocol and ISO.Experience with Ecoinvent, GaBi, and USEEIO databases.PhD or Master’s degree in a relevant field.Minimum of 3 years of quantitative field research experience and 1-2 years of related commercial experience.Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams at the intersection of environmental and computer sciences.Proficiency in R or Python programming languages.Additional Skills & QualificationsProject management experience is advantageous but not required.Preference for proficiency in Python over R.Work Environment
The ideal location for this role is Seattle, WA, US, but opportunities are available in other offices such as New York, JFK27-CO, or San Francisco, SFO13-CO. You will support a VP-level initiative aimed at developing AI capabilities to enhance the accuracy of sustainability measurements. The work environment encourages multitasking, managing 2-3 projects concurrently, and demonstrating progress biweekly through artifacts.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
