This will also include preparation and maintenance of routinely-used lab solutions, supplies, and equipment, and work with our animal colony (Xenopus frogs) to prepare animals or embryos for use in experiments. 2. Lab logistics management (50%). This responsibility will include routine lab managerial tasks and occasional support tasks that allow the lab to run smoothly. These may include: ordering and maintaining lab inventory; maintenance of lab databases, training records, protocols and manuals; overseeing and updating scheduling; facilitating interactions with vendors, repairpersons, safety and animal use inspections; updating the lab website. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** + Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry, Biology or related field and 1 year of experience working in a lab setting in molecular/cell biology or a related field doing experimental tasks. + Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration. **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS** + Experience with aquatic lab animals husbandry. + The applicant should have a strong foundational understanding of molecular biology principles, and at least 1 year of experience working in a lab setting in molecular/ cell biology or a related field doing experimental tasks like PCR, cloning, or similar. + The applicant must be familiar with and willing to use common software programs such as Microsoft Office suite. + Clear, timely, and reliable communication is critical to this job—our lab relies on our animals being healthy and our experimental supplies being in good condition, and so if something happens that jeopardizes this (the salt concentration in the animal room spikes; a temperature-sensitive package is delivered unexpectedly, etc), we all work together to make sure the animals or reagents are promptly protected. The applicant must be someone who enjoys working closely with others toward shared goals. + The applicant must be someone who is comfortable occasionally interacting with people over the phone and by email (such as vendors, tech support, or repair people). + The applicant must be comfortable working directly with frogs. + The applicant must be comfortable working during regular business hours (typically 9 to 5M-F, with some flexibility). **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS** + Knowledge of vertebrate development and genetics is a plus, especially aquatic animals. + Familiarity with the following software/apps would be helpful: Slack, FIJI, R, Ape (or other plasmid/sequence analysis tools), Pubmed, BLAST + The ideal applicant is someone with a demonstrated enthusiasm for organization, who gets personal satisfaction from contributing to an orderly environment where things run smoothly. + An ideal applicant might be someone who enjoys doing benchwork, contributing to experiments, learning about research, and being in a lab setting, but doesn’t need to be interested in the conceptual design of new experimental projects at this career stage. **Compensation, Benefits and Position Details** **Pay Range Minimum:** $51,312.00 annual **Pay Range Maximum:** $93,180.00 annual **Other Compensation:** - **Benefits:** For information about benefits for this position, visit https://www.washington.edu/jobs/benefits-for-uw-staff/ **Shift:** First Shift (United States of America) **Temporary or Regular?** This is a regular position **FTE (Full-Time Equivalent):** 100.00% **Union/Bargaining Unit:** UAW Research **About the UW** Working at the University of Washington provides a unique opportunity to change lives – on our campuses, in our state and around the world.
