Job Description

Job Description Summary:
The Research Scientist is primarily a research development and business development position for the Center for Applied Communications and Networks (CACN). The position will also include some research investigator (Pl, Co-Pl, Co-I) duties. The position will serve as an interim position to support the center while a new, full-time employee search is underway and will help with the transition once the new employee is found.
Responsibilities:
70%: Research/Business Development
- Develops strategic relationships with potential research sponsors, research partners, vendors, and commercial customers to create new opportunities for the center.
- Monitors solicitations (RFIs, RFPS, etc.) for research and commercial opportunities appropriate for the center.
- Forms and leads collaborative teams to respond to research proposals.
- Prepares research and commercial proposals, including problem and solution narratives, statements or work, budgets, and schedules.
15%: Research and Research Support - Develops technical requirements and system designs for conducting research.
- Participates in funded projects as a PI, Co-PI, or collaborator as appropriate for each project.
- Leads interaction with sponsors, collaborators, contractors, as appropriate for each project.
- Conducts research, executes deliverables, and produces required reports and artifacts as appropriate for each project.
10%: Outreach Attend and present at conferences. Publish articles in trade and professional journals. Attend meetings with project sponsors and collaborators.
5%: Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:- PhD Education, Information Technology, Engineering or related field.- Six years leadership experience in a highly technically complex work group environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have a deep understanding of complex network systems.- Ability to work in an environment that includes faculty, first responders, defense personnel and federal agencies. - Ability to communicate complex ideas in a large public venue.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Significant and successful experience with development of research projects for federal agencies, writing winning proposals, and successfully conducting the research specified in those projects.
- Significant and successful experience with development of commercial business partnerships and contracts.
- MS Office experience.
