The Lemieux Laboratory investigates the pathogenesis of tick-borne diseases and respiratory viral infections. We seek an ambitious, hard-working Research Technician with laboratory experience who is interested in playing a central role in supporting multiple research studies. Activities include the processing of clinical specimens and performing quantitative PCR and serological assays. Opportunities to gain skills in advanced genomic and immunologic methods are available. Experience with biochemistry, molecular biology and microbiology as practiced in a modern research laboratory is required. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with a strong academic track record, superior interpersonal skills, a high degree of self-motivation, and interest in a career in medicine or science.

This position provides exposure to basic and translational research in a dynamic environment where teaching and mentorship are a priority. We anticipate candidates will go on to pursue careers in biochemistry, molecular biology, medicine, or related fields.

The candidate will work on a projected two-year portion of the project. Start date is flexible, and graduating college seniors are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time position with an expected 40-hour a week commitment. The work schedule will generally follow standard business hours. Occasionally, longer or different hours may be required due to project needs (e.g. if an experiment runs long).

Duties of this position will include:
• Performing whole-genome sequencing of viral respiratory swabs using amplicon
• Overseeing project biospecimen repository and assist with specimen sharing among collaborating labs.
• Collaborating with senior laboratory personnel to extend existing assays to multiple viruses and develop and test new assays and genome-sequencing techniques.
• Contributing to assay development and protocol optimization by conducting a literature search
• Participating in regular meetings with the PI, Dr. Lemeiux.
• Ensuring compliance with research protocols.
• Performing administrative support duties as required.

Essential Functions

-Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
-Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
-Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
-Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
-Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
-Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.

Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment 1-2 years preferred

- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures, results, and challenges.
