**GENERAL DUTIES**
Supports research projects and activities in connection with CUNY programs
- May assist faculty research groups by configuring and testing equipment, collecting and organizing data, and preparing documentation.
- Performs direct research tasks under supervision.
- May develop or utilize computer-based systems to collect and analyze data.

**CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION**
The City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center is the academic and research hub of the nation’s largest urban public university system. It is home to more than 30 research institutes and centers, including the Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), which supports cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research in fields vital to public health, environmental sustainability, and technological innovation.
Located in upper Manhattan (West Harlem), the ASRC is a 200,000-square-foot facility designed to foster collaboration among researchers across five interdisciplinary initiatives (nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmental sciences) and 17 core facilities.
The ASRC is seeking a full-time Research Laboratory and Core Facilities Support Technician (Research Assistant) to support the technical operations of its advanced laboratories and core instrumentation. Reporting to the ASRC’s Director of Operations – and working closely with the Environmental Health and Safety Officer and Building Superintendent – the incumbent will help ensure the smooth functioning of research activities across the ASRC’s five interdisciplinary initiatives.
Key responsibilities include monitoring environmental health and safety protocols, coordinating and directly facilitating maintenance and performance of complex scientific equipment, and serving as a liaison to ASRC researchers, facilities’ staff, and external vendors.
**Duties include but are not limited to:**
**Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Operational Support:**
+ Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety personnel to ensure laboratory safety, compliance, and up-to-date training documentation.
+ Assist with EH&S training coordination, documentation, record keeping, and compliance.
+ Conduct EH&S inspections of Satellite Accumulation Areas (SAAs) for proper waste labeling and assist with waste pick-up and removal.
+ Assist with receiving, distributing, and inventory of chemicals.
+ Inspect and report on building fire extinguishers expiration dates and general egress routes.
**Operational and Infrastructure Coordination:**
+ Provide support to select core facilities for the operation, maintenance, and performance monitoring of advanced instrumentation, chillers, water filtration systems (cleaning condensers, changing filters, cleaning strainers).
+ Coordinate vendor services for instrument calibration and repair.
+ Maintain documentation for preventative maintenance and performance checks.
**Facility Operations and Logistical Coordination:**
+ Coordinate logistics and communication between building occupants, campus facilities, and external vendors.
+ Assist with tracking and maintaining records of facility operations and maintenance.
+ Report, monitor, and follow up on facilities issues and service requests.
+ Submit and manage work tickets and requisitions for building maintenance.
+ Assist with office and lab space management and assignment.
Other duties may be assigned. This is a fully onsite position.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience relevant to the research being performed.
**OTHER QUALIFICATIONS**
**A preferred candidate should have:**
+ A degree in chemistry, physics, or engineering (mechanical or electrical).
+ Strong attention to details, mechanically inclined, and committed to fostering a safe, efficient, and collaborative research environment.
+ Experience in laboratory environments and with maintaining complex equipment.
+ Familiarity with hazardous materials and adherence to OSHA or other safety guidelines.
+ Ability to obtain required technical certifications or licenses.
+ Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
+ Effective team player with experience in large, diverse organizations.
+ Excellent communication skills.
+ Experience with maintenance and repair of scientific or industrial equipment, including systems with mechanical, fluid, or hydraulic components.
+ Ability to read and understand technical documents, including safety rules, manuals, and schematics.
+ Experience managing chemical inventory in line with safety protocols.
+ Proficient in equipment troubleshooting and documenting test results.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be offered for this position.
**COMPENSATION**
$54,324-$63,884/year
