**Responsibilities**
The Gubatan Lab at Mayo Clinic Florida is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to support a basic and translational research program in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The lab focuses on mechanisms of IBD pathogenesis, therapy resistance, and host immune–microbiome interactions using patient‑derived samples and established mouse models.
**Research Responsibilities**
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated scientist with expertise in immunology, bioinformatics, systems biology, or related disciplines, and experience in multi‑omics and translational research. Ongoing projects include:
Spatial transcriptomics to investigate mechanisms of therapy failure in ulcerative colitis (JAK inhibitors) and small‑bowel Crohn’s disease (anti‑IL23 therapies).
Peripheral blood scRNA‑seq, immune repertoire (TCR/BCR) sequencing, and machine learning to classify IBD and predict therapeutic response.
Fibroblast–immune cell interactions in IBD.
Regulation of IgA/IgG binding to gut microbiota.
CX3CR1⁺ regulatory B cells and host–microbiome interactions.
The fellow will apply single‑cell and spatial transcriptomics, shotgun metagenomics, IgA/IgG‑Seq, immune repertoire profiling, computational methods, cell culture, and mouse models. Responsibilities include presenting data, preparing manuscripts, and supporting grant submissions. Leadership and mentoring experience is beneficial.
**Technical Skills**
Preferred qualifications include proficiency in:
Molecular biology (DNA/RNA isolation, qPCR, western blot, ELISA)
Immunology techniques (flow cytometry, cell isolation, immunohistochemistry)
Cell culture and co‑culture systems
Mouse handling (genotyping, injections, drug administration, tissue harvesting)
R and/or Python for bioinformatic analysis (transcriptomics, metagenomics, etc.)
Microbiology experience is a plus
**Supervisory Responsibilities**
Mentor laboratory technicians, visiting scholars, and trainees in experimental design and data analysis.
**Qualifications**
Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in Immunology, Biochemistry, Molecular/Cell Biology, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, or a related field.
Prior postdoctoral experience is helpful but not required. Strong background in multi‑omics is highly preferred.
Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills are required.
