The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position and outline skills and experience that directly relate to this position. **Job Summary** The Department of Radiology at Michigan Medicine of the University of Michigan has an immediate opening within the Center for Molecular Imaging for a Synthetic Organic Chemist postdoctoral fellow. The candidate is required to have a strong background in organic synthesis and a demonstrated ability to work independently in the design and development of small molecule candidates of biological interest in oncology and immune-suppressive agents. High proficiency in compound isolation techniques (low pressure chromatography, HPLC) and characterization (NMR, MS, LCMS, HPLC) and familiarity with literature search methodology (e.g. SciFinder, Beilstein) is also required. A background in utilizing computational molecular docking software would also be beneficial. Conduct multistep chemical syntheses from mg to Kg scale. Optimize chemical routes and reactions to set deliverables up to multi-kilogram scale. Participate in external and internal chemistry collaborations. Work up, purify, and characterize all synthesized compounds and prepare submissions for in vitro and in vivo studies. Maintain Chemistry Lab Notebook and comply with notebook best practices per university policies. Collaboratively design studies. Maintain synthetic and analytical lab equipment. Collect and interpret all data for all synthesized compounds and intermediates: Any form/type of NMR; Mass spectrometry; HLPC-UV purity. Computational work with Schrodinger molecular docking software or equivalent. Maintain EHS lab standards including manage waste streams, conduct peroxide testing, keep work areas organized and clean, update and maintain labels on chemical stocks, maintain the chemical inventory list, maintain and order materials for the lab. Reporting requirements include preparation of publications patent applications submission of abstracts and present conference posters and talks. **Required Qualifications*** The applicant must hold a PhD degree in Synthetic Organic or Medicinal Chemistry or a related field in the synthesis of kinase inhibitors. **Desired Qualifications*** Applicants with a PhD in Synthetic Organic or Medicinal Chemistry. **Modes of Work** Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
