Department Specific Functions
Join the forefront of translational research at the Sylvester Pancreatic Cancer Research Institute and the Department of Surgery, where we are dedicated to advancing the understanding, prevention, and treatment of pancreatic cancer through high-impact mechanistic and therapeutic research. The Department of Surgery is seeking a Research Associate 2 to join Dr. Nagathihalli’s Lab and play a vital role in advancing both computational and experimental research within a multidisciplinary team focused on pancreatic cancer biology. This position serves as a bridge between computational biology and wet-lab methods, supporting the analysis of multi-omics datasets (bulk, single-cell, and spatial) derived from patient tumors and disease models. The incumbent will collaborate closely with data scientists, bioinformaticians, and cancer biologists to uncover gene regulatory networks and elucidate mechanisms driving tumorigenesis, treatment resistance, and metastasis. Core responsibilities include analyzing high-throughput sequencing datasets (e.g., RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, Hi-C, and spatial transcriptomics), applying statistical modeling and machine learning for biological insights, and developing and maintaining computational workflows using R, Python, and GitHub. The role also involves contributing to data visualization, interpretation, and manuscript preparation; assisting with wet-lab activities such as library preparation, histology, PCR, flow cytometry, and media preparation; documenting workflows and results in accordance with institutional and scientific standards; and adapting to evolving project scopes, workflow optimizations, and emerging analytical needs.
