Research Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery
The University of Virginia School of Medicine invites applications for two tenure-ineligible Research Assistant Professors to work in the lab of Dr. Jianjie Ma. The successful candidates will conduct research in the Department of Surgery, focusing on cellular and molecular biology related to surgical biomedical research. The candidates will engage in translational research to further understand cellular processes such as membrane repair, muscle regeneration, organ transplantation, neointima formation, stem cell biology, targeted drug delivery, and the response of cancer cells to therapeutic treatment. Responsibilities include conducting a wide array of gene editing, gene delivery, biochemistry, cellular imaging evaluations applicable to regenerative medicine, diabetes, surgical oncology, organ transplantation, cancer therapeutics, and aging biology. Prior experience in biotechnology development is preferred. There are no clinical responsibilities associated with this position. Qualified applicants will possess a Doctoral degree in Physiology, Pharmacy, Integrated Biology, or a closely related field, and will also have successfully completed a post-doctoral fellowship working on regenerative medicine or biotechnology. This position will be expected to demonstrate basic knowledge in research design and engineering, implementation of research procedures, data analysis, interpretation of results, presentation of data, and research scholarship. The candidate is also expected to have strong communication skills and be willing to participate in team-based translational research.
