Job Summary

The School of Dentistry is looking to hire a Research Administration Manager to join the Office of Research and Contracts and Grants Service Center (CGSC) team. You will report directly to the Director of Research Administration. A hybrid schedule is a possibility in this position, with on-site days located at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in Ann Arbor, MI. On-site presence is required during onboarding.

Manage the Contracts and Grants Service Center 40%

Under a culture of continuous improvement, you will lead in the creation of and implement policies and procedures for the School of Dentistry Research Administration, with the Director of Research AdministrationAdministrative: Manage the Contracts and Grants Service Center, which includes:Conduct regular staff meetingsServe as the main contact for ORSP and Sponsored ProgramsSet and maintain metrics for the service center to continuously improve work processes and procedures for the center to create the most value to customersConduct the annual effort certification process for the schoolAdvise faculty and administrators on current research administration policyReview and approve various transactions (effort changes, reimbursement reports, HSIP, etc.)Serve on campus committeesMaintain access to the eRPM system for the SchoolPresent research administration training opportunities for the School communityComplex Grant Management: Provide oversight to Research Administrators managing complex grants, both in pre- and post-award phases. May take on complex grant management depending on workload.
 

Leadership and Supervision 30%

Lead the Contracts and Grants Service Center staff, which includes:Tracking performance and conducting annual performance reviewsProviding onboarding and offboarding to staffMonitor workload and plan CGSC workloadManage team conflicts and conduct regular meetingsMaintain a positive team culture and service excellenceOversee CGSC annual budget in conjunction with the Director for Research Administration, create and maintain succession plans for CGSC
 

General Office of Research Duties 30%

Assist the Director of Research Administration in the annual budget process for the Office of ResearchMonitor OOR budgets and produce regular reports to the Director of Research Administration For the School of Dentistry, recharge cores, serve as the iLabs representative and run monthly recharges (including external invoices) and assist the Director of Research Administration with recharge rate renewal requestsDevelop an active database of all Office of Research commitmentsServe as the main School contact and approver for the OPS ordering system, expense reports, and HSIP requests, escalating to the Director of Research Administration as neededAssist the Director of Research Administration with the development, implementation, and maintenance of the School of Dentistry's research metricsAssist with the School of Dentistry's annual Research Day event, and with other eventsOther duties as assigned Required Qualifications*Manager: Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of direct research administration experience with supervisory responsibilities or a combination of education and experience
Supervisor:  Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of direct research administration experience with supervisory responsibilities or a combination of education and experienceExperience with managing complex projectsProven capacity to work independently and deliver quality results under pressure and within strict time constraints.Ability to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in a multi-faceted research environmentYou value working in a collaborative team and service-based environmentDesired Qualifications*Certified Research Administrator (CRA)Familiarity and experience with U-M administrative systems like Business Objects, Tableau, eResearch, M-Reports, etc.Experience with LEAN thinking and continuous improvementKnowledge of biomedical-related research activities and funding sources, particularly NIH, and University policies and proceduresModes of Work
