Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The RN PICC is responsible for providing vascular access to patients such as placing PICC lines, peripheral IV catheters and obtain lab work if needed with or without the use of ultrasound. Responsibilities include effective communication within the healthcare team, evaluate and trouble shoot vascular access devices, and provide education to other healthcare team members regarding vascular access devices and care.Essential Job Functions
Provides vascular access to patients such as placing PICC lines, peripheral IV catheters and obtain lab work if needed with or without the use of ultrasound.Evaluate and trouble shoot vascular access devices, including central lines.Provide education to other healthcare team members regarding vascular access devices and care.Responsible for charting of care.Communicate with Team Lead regarding care provided to patients on the unit, including assessments and treatments.Data collection for patient safety and quality.Requires the daily assessment of all IV sites (central and peripheral) on inpatient units, change IV dressings and IV site as required per policy (SJWH ONLY).This document is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, or working conditions associated with the job. Specialty/Major: Nursing
Preferred Education: 4 year/ Bachelor’s Degree or obtain BSN within 5 years of employment

Licensing/ Certification - If registration, certification or licensure is required, include the name of the accrediting or licensing body.
Licensure/Certification Required: Current nursing license in the State of Ohio, BLS, ACLS, PALS and any other unit specific certification requirement
Licensure/Certification Preferred: PICC Certification – obtain w/in one year of start date
Minimum Years and Type of Experience: Minimum of 2 years nursing experience
Preferred ultrasound guided IV insertion, Midline insertion and PICC line insertion experience. 2-3 years’ experience in ICU, Medical-Surgical or experience in specialty preferred.
