Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health Unit

UPMC Washington is currently hiring a Full Time Professional Staff Nurse to support the Behavioral Health Unit. This position will work rotating Days/Night, with weekend and holiday requirements.

This position is eligible for a generous Sign-On Bonus!

$15,000 with a 2-year commitment for qualified experienced Registered Nurses with more than 1 year of experience. Graduate Nurses are eligible to receive up to a $10,000 Sign-On Bonus with a 2-year commitment.

About the Professional Staff Nurse Role

The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. The Professional Staff Nurse is responsible for setting the standards for the level and quality of care. The Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility, authority, and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The Professional Staff Nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Professional Staff Nurse encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. The Professional Staff Nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients, and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Professional Staff Nurse demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

Responsibilities

Professional Relationships & Workplace Culture
Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to patients and colleagues. Demonstrates an understanding of cultural differences and holds peers accountable for healthy relationships. Patient & Staff Education
Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles (and/or teaching children if applicable) and applies these in teaching patients, families, students, and new staff. Provides detailed and appropriate education to guide patients and families through the episode of care and transition to another level of care or home. Supports the development of students, new staff, and colleagues, and may serve as a preceptor. Fosters an environment of open dialogue, inquiry, and continuous development by seeking feedback and improving practice.

Clinical Practice & Communication
Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship-Based Care to create a healing environment. Formulates daily goals and a plan of care that involves the patient as a partner and considers individual needs holistically. Demonstrates critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues. Practices solid communication skills, articulating and translating the patient’s condition to other care providers, and making recommendations for changes in care and unit practices. Ensures comprehensive documentation that promotes communication between caregivers. Aligns with national professional organizations and health system goals to enhance patient safety, quality, and satisfaction. Builds healing relationships to create a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience.

Demonstrates accountability for professional development that enhances practice quality and patient care. Actively participates in unit-based shared governance, goal setting, and supports change and transition processes. Serves as a highly engaged care team partner, responding willingly to team needs. Quality Improvement & Evidence-Based Practice
Actively participates in department or unit-specific quality improvement efforts. Identifies opportunities for improvement and communicates them to colleagues and management. Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support clinical improvements, identifies relevant research issues or articles, discusses quality improvement opportunities during multidisciplinary rounds, and influences patient care plans.
