About this Job
The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the Veterans' population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse-Program Coordinator to coordinate facility-wide programs, which will include, but not be limited to: Infection Control, Discharge Planning, Quality Assurance, DRG Coordinator, Utilization Review, and Support Service Review.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:
Three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
A bachelor's degree in nursing plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
A master's degree in nursing or public health plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
A doctorate in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
As a Registered Nurse-Program Coordinator, you will p lan, develop, implement, and monitor facility-wide multi-disciplinary programs, i.e., to coordinate facility-wide activities related to quality control, including, but not limited to: Infection Control, Discharge Planning, Quality Assurance, and DRG.
In this role, you will also:
+ Plan, schedule, implement, assess, assure, and direct infection control practices, prevention, education, and monitoring in infection control policies, procedures, and practice.
+ Implement and coordinate infection control programs such as TB skin testing program, RSV assessment, Covid outbreaks/screens/vaccinations/surveillance, shingles information/vaccination, seasonal concerns such as flu and pneumococcal, etc.
+ Perform infection control surveillances throughout the home by doing rounds daily (ie: maintenance – hand rails, resident equipment without tears, rips, no wedges, cushions that are not able to be cleaned to prevent infections, dietary/ nursing ice machines, sharps containers, glucose monitoring machines, aseptic technique with wound care, etc., therapy cleaning of ultrasound probes/gel, hydrocollator cleaning, proper handwashing, proper peri care, donning/doffing of PPE.
+ Utilization of proper isolation procedures – enhanced barrier precautions, transmission-based precautions.
+ Ensure facility has a facility-wide infection prevention, control & immunizations program including standards, policies, procedures, and education that are current, based on national standards, CDC, CMS, and other State and Federal agencies.
+ Plan, schedule, implement, and assure adequate orientation and continuing education of nurses and nursing assistants.
+ Maintain an ongoing orientation program for new department employees. Ensure staff requiring BBP low and high risk obtain the required training as needed.
+ Monitor all admissions and perform admission reviews, continued stay reviews, discharge planning reviews, and maintenance plan reviews according to criteria.
+ Develop, implement, direct, and monitor the facility's Employee Health Program.
+ Provide orientation and employee education concerning employee health.
+ Implements the annual TB skin testing program.
+ May provide direct patient care when it relates to infection control or employee health.
+ Provide information concerning various medical diagnoses and especially the corresponding procedures and treatments, length of stay or treatment necessary per diagnosis, and proper medication and intervals.
+ Serve as advisor or mediator in discussions with hospital personnel.

Location: Nursing Department of the Northeast LA Veterans Home in Monroe, Louisiana.
Appointment Type: Probational or Job Appointment
Work Schedule: Day Shift (8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m)
+ Work may involve shift work.
Compensation: Premium pay for this position per hour physically worked is listed below:
$2.00 work incentive pay upon hire
$0.25 extra credential pay upon hire for ACLS
$0.60 extra credential pay upon hire for ANCC
