Registered Nurse - Pre/Post Department at 84South ASC

84South:Registered Nurse (RN) – Pre/Post 0.8 FTE

54 bed unit over two floors

1 floor is procedural (Pain, GI, IR)

1 floor is OR (ENT, Ortho, Peds, General, Podiatry, GYN, & plastics)Patients are prepped and recovered in same room

No “typical” PACU area, they return to pre-op room after procedure

Pre/Post Nurses may work on both floors throughout their shift depending on case volumes

Start times as early as 0500, stay as late as 1900.  Early and late shifts are rotated between team members

As we are an ASC, we follow strict admission criteria to ensure patients are appropriate for the ASC setting

All RNs are ACLS and PALS certified, 911 will be called in an emergency

Patients unable to discharge home are transferred to hospital via ambulance

Pre-Post RNs cross trained in the Pre-admit area to do pre-op phone calls

Scrubs are provided on site.

Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Pre/Post Anesthesia provides safe, high‑quality nursing care to patients before and after anesthesia. This role uses the nursing process to deliver individualized, patient‑ and family‑centered care while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to promote optimal outcomes, safety, and an excellent patient experience.

Major ResponsibilitiesAssesses patient needs, develops and implements individualized plans of care, and evaluates patient outcomes throughout the pre‑ and post‑anesthesia continuum.Builds therapeutic relationships and engages patients and families in care planning, education, and discharge preparation.Recognizes and responds to changes in patient condition, adjusting care plans, mobilizing resources, and collaborating with the healthcare team as needed.Implements strategies to reduce risk and promote patient safety, including timely reporting of safety events and near misses.Coordinates interdisciplinary discharge planning to ensure safe transitions of care.Applies evidence‑based practice, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements consistently.Participates in shared governance, quality improvement, and process improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes.Demonstrates effective communication, teamwork, leadership, and appropriate delegation to support high‑functioning care teams.Supports a culture of safety, ethical practice, and mutual respect across all disciplines.Maintains professional competence through ongoing education, required meetings, and completion of annual competencies.Provides age‑appropriate care across the lifespan in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Licensure & Certification RequiredActive Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practiceBasic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (AHA)Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Experience Required1 year of Pre/Post‑Anesthesia experience strongly preferred Pediatric experience preferred
