JOB DESCRIPTION

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing mental health and medication support to clients in a full Day Treatment/PHP and other settings. The incumbent provides individual and group sessions focused on medication support and education for clients, while coordinating with other healthcare professionals regarding client health. The duties include other health related services, such as medication injections, administrative record keeping and documentation into clients’ health records.

COMPENSATION

$62.11 - $80.88 per hour. Non-Exempt; Monday through Friday; 20 hours/week; Eligible for overtime. Compensation is based on education and experience.

 

REPORTS TO

Nurse Administrator and Program Director

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Current California Registered Nurse license; Experience in the Mental Health field.  Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and psychotropic medications.

 

Driver's license for at least two years and driving record acceptable to insurance carrier.

Valid California driver's license; auto in safe operating condition; auto liability insurance; good driving record; criminal record clearance; proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

 

Preferred: BSN; Psychiatric nursing experience; Medi-Cal documentation experience; proficient in Outlook email correspondence and computer software’s. Ability to; work as a member of a team; accept supervision; maintain appropriate boundaries while working in close inter-personal relationships; learn and apply principles of social rehabilitation; organized, responsible, flexible, empathic and able to relate effectively with clients, other staff, professionals and members of the community. Knowledge of community resources.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·        Provide medication education and support, individually and in groups: Knowledge of medication classification and side-effects and expected therapeutic responses.

·        Provide recovery-oriented, trauma informed, wellness centered approach to consumers’ mental health conditions and substance/alcohol use disorders.

·        Coordinate medications prescribed by Psychiatric provider/prescriber.

·        Assists Psychiatric provider with providing patient care, schedule and coordinate appointments and document appointments on appointment calendar.

·        Complete clients’ vital signs, as needed, and document in EMR.

·        Provide treatment focused on clients’ reaching their health, recovery, and rehabilitation goals.

·        Provide consultation and education related to psychiatric and medication education to clients’ family members and/or other support members as appropriate.

·        Administer IM (injection) medications assigned and document in EMR.

·        Conduct, utilize, and document nurse need assessments.

·        Obtain and coordinate resources on nutrition training, substance use, diet planning, smoking cessation, and other health related issues as they arise.

·        Facilitate linkage with healthcare professionals and pharmacies as needed.

·        Maintain legible, accurate and timely documentation of treatment plans and other necessary information on clients, including documentation required for DHCS, CCLD, Medi-Cal and CARF standards.

·        Maintain accurate and secure summary information based on documentation in computer files and databases and follow the HIPAA Privacy Rules guidelines for protecting client’s medical records.

·        Identify, assess and respond to crisis situations. Set clear limits and ensure that both clients and facility are safe.

·        Meet documentation and other productivity and outcome standards of the program.

·        Collaborate and coordinate services with multidisciplinary staff team members, i.e. Administrative Assistants, Counselors, Clinical therapists/social workers, Psychiatric Providers, Nurses, Peer Counselors, and other staff to provide effective services.

·        Provide training to other staff as requested.

·        Provide nursing services in other programs as assigned.

·        Other duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to: operate a motor vehicle; climb stairs; possess good communication skills; meet the requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Capable of the following extended activities: walking, standing, sitting, stooping, climbing stairs. Capable of the following intermittent activities: stooping, kneeling, lift up to 25 pounds or more and bending in the performance of infrequently performed office duties.
