As a Registered Nurse Level IV, you will leverage your clinical expertise and leadership skills to develop and implement comprehensive care plans for patients. Additionally, you will serve as a mentor to fellow team members, providing guidance and support to ensure the highest standards of care on the unit.

Oncology Unit - Sands 600 – Excellence in Oncology, Palliative, and Medical-Surgical Care

Sands 600 is a dynamic 36-bed inpatient unit specializing in Hematology/Oncology and Palliative Care, while also providing high-quality care for Medical-Surgical overflow patients. Our team is deeply committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals facing complex medical diagnoses, cancer treatments, or end-of-life transitions.

Specialty Focus Areas

Hematology/Oncology:
Sands 600 primarily focuses on leukemia and lymphoma but provides expert care to patients with a wide range of cancer diagnoses. Nurses on the unit are specially trained in chemotherapy administration, mediport access, and the management of oncology-related complications.Palliative and End-of-Life Care:
Our team sets the standard for compassionate, holistic palliative and hospice care, addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families during critical moments.

This unit is the ideal environment for nurses who are passionate about oncology, palliative care, and meaningful patient-centered work—offering a rewarding and supportive space for clinical growth and compassionate care delivery.

This role is part of the Registered Nurse Level IV / Clinical Nurse IV must complete the following:

Complete the Clinical Ladder binder within 12 months of employment

Minimum of 5 activities in each Pillar (Leadership, Quality, and Organizational Contribution)

15 Continuing education units (CEU's)

20 Flex items

SCHEDULE: Day/Evening/Night - Every other weekend / holiday

       

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES:

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.

Minimum of 6 months experience as a registered nurse.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assessment. Perform initial and ongoing assessment of the patient; demonstrate exceptional clinical judgment and advanced assessment skills; communicate and document assessment with interdisciplinary team; utilize all available resources in order to meet the needs of the patient and familyPlanning & Implementation. Develop and document plan of care, treatment and services; collaborate interdisciplinary health team to deliver care; maintains an appropriate nurse-patient relationship and provides an exceptional experience for the patient and familyEvaluation & Education. Evaluate, communicate and document patient responses to care; revise plan of care based on ongoing evaluations; ensure the patient receives and understands education/training specific to their needs and abilities Training. Provide training for new team members on the unit; assume role of teacher for nursing students and other students shadowing on the unit; act as a resource for other team members for both clinical and non-clinical matters

EDUCATION:

BS: Nursing (Required)

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: 

BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA), RN - Registered Nurse - New York State Education Department (NYSED)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
