Primary responsibilities include direct patient care, patient/family teaching, symptom management, counseling, and supportive role to assist the patients and their families. May require specialized skills depending on location/unit/specialty assignment. **Duties and Responsibilities** + Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients. + Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patients' conditions and develops individual care plans for patients. + Carries out physician orders such as administering prescribed medications or treatments, preparing an operating room, order lab tests, x-rays, etc... + Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Monitors and restocks supplies. + Assists provider during examinations, non-operative and operative procedures. + Maintains aseptic techniques; actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique. + Assists in patient care related activities such as changes dressings, cleans wounds, monitors vital signs, starting IV solutions and inserting tubes. + Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members. + Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties. + Prepares and maintains records of patient charges. + Variation of duties may result based on the assigned customer care unit(s). SYS-NURS-L Nursing Education Requirements Policy outlines current certification(s) required for specific areas of nursing practice and is considered to be part of the job description. + In addition to requirements specified in the license and certification section below, current BLS certification for all areas of nursing practice is required. + Current certification may be required for the following areas of nursing practice: + Emergency Care Center - ACLS, PALS + Intensive Care Center & MSCC Lead - ACLS, PALS + L&D - ACLS, NRP, - Experienced L&D nurses will obtain within 6 months and new L&D nurses will obtain at 1 year of experience + NICU - NRP + PEDS - PALS + PCC/PACU/ENDO - ACLS, PALS + Procedural - ACLS **Common Expectations:** + Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population.
