Registered Nurse - Call Center, Poison Control

We operate 24/7, with the work week running from Sunday to Saturday. Weekend shift coverage is required on Saturday and Sunday. The pay period is biweekly, and this position is full-time, totaling 40 hours per week with 8-hour shifts. In one week, you will work three shifts, and in the following week, you will work two shifts. Evening shift hours are from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with an occasional request to work from 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM. **Up to **$5000 Referral Bonus available to current employees**** Responsible for emergency telephone management of poisoning exposures and questions handled by the Missouri Poison Center for the entire state. Candidate must be extremely skilled at listening and communications as guiding treatment advice for both the public and health care providers. Must be able to manage beneficial relationships with individuals and departments inside and outside of the hospital structure. Demonstrate the ability to acquire a knowledge of poison prevention techniques and demonstrate the ability to interpret subtle indications while formulating accurate questions to aid in decision making responses regarding toxicology recommendations. Creates an environment that leads to a positive patient care experience by evaluating, planning, and implementing effective patient care plans within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care and operational guidelines. **Qualifications** CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, BONDING: State of MO RN License 1. B.S.N. preferable, but not essential. 3. Must acquire a knowledge of toxicological resources that are helpful in managing poison cases. 4. Must demonstrate willingness and a desire to learn large measure of new information and be willing to keep abreast of the rapidly changing field of toxicology and pharmacology. 5. Certification as a poison information specialist is required after eligibility is met, i.e., achievement of 2000 hours experience in poison center and 2000 telephone calls on poison exposure. **EXPERIENCE:** 1. Experience desirable in pediatrics, E.R., I.C.U., Transport, but not essential. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in staffing a 24-hour emergency telephone service while acting collaboratively with staff, other health care providers and lay callers. Obtain and document a complete and accurate history while demonstrating appropriate assessment and triage skills in a timely manner. Demonstrate exceptional communication skills providing a calm, reassuring and intelligent interaction with the public and health care professionals. Demonstrate ability to use computer for live data collection and documentation, online resources for information gathering, and communication with caller through Cisco phone system. EDUCATION + Graduate of accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing EXPERIENCE + Three years' registered nurse experience with insight in medical/surgical, pediatric or maternal/child health PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS + Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs. + Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. + Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors. + Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc. + Frequent keyboard use/data entry. + Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping. + Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs. + Rare climbing.
